Rockerill | RhythmTravels.com

In 1832, the powerful blacksmith of Agimont and the industrialist Thomas Bonehill founded, on a site called La Providence, a factory that would give its letters of nobility to the region of Charleroi. The location was strategic, it is true, located between the Sambre and the Charleroi-Brussels-Antwerp Canal, a stone’s throw from the Marchienne-Malinnes railway line and an important mining site.
Destroyed during the War of 1914, the forges are rebuilt in the aftermath of the conflict. The activity is running at full capacity before absorption by the Cockerill-Sambre group, a prelude to the industrial decline of the 1980s.
In 2005, a group of artists and friends recovered and saved the industrial wasteland and renamed it Rockerill.
A new life begins for the forges of La Providence: concert halls, cooperative ironwork, artist workshops and creation of the label Rockerill Records.
Since 2011, the Rockerill has joined the Plasma Club and signed a program contract with the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. Cultural activities are developing (industrial aperitifs, international concerts, electronic evenings …).
The venue accommodates, in different forms, more than 200 artists per season. Since then, its influence has been growing with more than 15,000 people a year.
After the heavy industry and the coal mining, the alternative culture is now a jewel of the City of Charleroi and the Rockerill takes an active and decisive part!
