The Jamaican was born in 1971 as the remaining hostess bars of Rua Nova do Carvalho where it is located. Adopted this name to attract people who came in ships carrying coffee stops those Caribbean and landed in Lisbon. The difference between Jamaica and the remaining bars neighbors began to sit from 1975, when Mario Dias – current coordinator of the TSF animation – started playing music. Since then other customers began attending home, men and women who appreciate good music and leave at night to be with friends, to have a few beers and dance, moving away gradually clientele that frequented the space. From then on, the evolution was natural, taking in music the strong point that has kept the name of Jamaica nights in Lisbon.
