One particular weekend
So it’s officially Autumn… the leaves are turning from lusciously vivid green to rich, rustic reds, the black opaque tights are out in full force and there’s a Christmas isle in Tesco… Bet let’s not forget the fantastic times that were had during those long sun shining days of Summer 2014. As I look back over the last few months a number of exciting moments spring to mind and there’s definitely 1 weekend in particular; SECRET GARDEN PARTY ‘14. Aka the BEST festival you could ever attend. Famous for it’s quirky themes, this year was loosely based on the The Wizard of Oz; complete with a floating Emerald City, sunflower field and yellow brick road – even the onsite convince store was decorated with red sparkling shoes hanging from the ceiling. It was magical.
As well as a fantastic line up including Public Enemy, Foxes, Little Dragon, Gorgon City, Jack Garret and my favourites Fickle Friends (fan girl alert!) there was so much to do! The Secret Emporium (which I believe travels to a number of festivals including Bestival) was filled with the most eclectic, ethereal and mystical fashion boutiques, make up stalls and jewellery stands – especially designed to create a platform for independent designers. It was like visiting another world, imagine a factory which made glitter bombs, huge elegant bouquets and firework like party poppers exploded… you get the jist right?! BTW – I definitely recommend taking a loan out before visiting SGP – you are going to want everything. And I mean that!
Another weird and wonderful find was the ‘Artful Badger’ section which was an escape from the norm in a secluded forest section complete with a small stage and tree-house bar. Another favourite area of mine was the Sanctuary I just loved everything about SGP – I mean where else would you watch your favourite bands perform on a stage build inside a tree, take part in a wedding as guests holding hands around a band stand, dance along to The Beatles ‘All You Need Is Love’ whilst watching the most impressive fireworks over the lake, stumble across a mariachi band playing Human League’s ‘Don’t You Want Me Baby’ and end up sipping mulled wine in a Christmas cocktail bar OR dress like the CRAZIEST disco diva, with glitter all over your face without anyone batting an eyelid?!
It truly was one of the best weekends of the year & a festival I will be visiting from hereon after… H xox.
