Tresor new club in Detroit
About two years ago we could read that Dimitri Hegemann the Founder of Berlin Techno Nightclub Tresor had began talking with officials in Detroit to redevelop the Fischer Body Plant No. 21 into a techno club. Detroit Free Press now reports that Hegemann has found a new location, The Packard Plant on Detroit’s east side.
Arte Express, a firm owned by Fernando Palazuelo who In 2013 purchased the Packard Plant for $405,000 in late 2013 in a Wayne County tax foreclosure auction. Has pledged the improbable — to restore and reopen the factory complex as a modern mixed-use commercial, residential and cultural development.
The project would be built on four phases estimated to take about 10-15 years.
Where Phase one will be focusing on building modern office spaces and a recreational complex.
Phase two has yet to have full details on development.
Phase three could begin as early as 2018. Phase III building live-work spaces for artists, an art exhibition gallery and a ground-floor restaurant.
and finally Phase four focused on entertainment and cultural attractions including a hostel, a spa, and Hegemann’s techno club.
“According to Dimitri, he’s going to be bringing in a lot of young people from Berlin who are extremely interested in Detroit,” Smith said of the entertainment and hostel concept. “Berlin, of all the cities I’ve been in, loves Detroit more than any other city.”
Hegemann is also looking into gaining a special nightlife license to allow a Packard Plant venue to serve alcohol past Michigan’s 2 a.m. To meet the standards of Berlin club-goers that often don’t even arrive past 1 a.m and alcohol served at all hours.
Let’s hope this establishment goes trough so that we can visit the birthplace of Techno soon. Until then view Tresors upcoming events in Berlin here.
