Paris is Burning (documentary)
After the recent terrible acts done to the lgbt community that actually is an attack to all of us as we all have the right to be ourselves and be able to express it without any fear.
We present this weeks documentary Paris is Burning that focuses on drag queens living in New York City and their “house” culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers. Groups from each house compete in elaborate balls that take cues from the world of fashion. Also touching on issues of racism and poverty.
Lets not forget that House music and all the electronic music that we have today came from the gay, black and latino community. We should be thankful for their bravery to be themselves, Yet 30 years later we experience the same oppression and ignorance towards minorities.
The film features interviews with a number of renowned drag queens, including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija and Dorian Corey.
