Label Focus: Moveltraxx

Since 2007 MovelTraxx has been one of the most preeminent labels within Urban Club Music releasing music from the biggest names within their genres such as Sinjin Hawke, DJ Rashad, Mighty Mark, Dj Earl, Dj Tamiel, So Shifty and Traxman.

We reached out to Moveltraxx to get to know them a bit more.

What made you start MovelTraxx?

We started the label because no one else was doing what we wanted to do. We wanted to create a platform where ghetto club music scenes (juke, footwork, jersey club , baltimore club etc…) meet more traditional forms of dance music (house, techno, rap) including OGs & new talents in the process to create a wide spectrum of music we wanna hear.

Being based in London how is the local scene of Urban Club Music such as Footwork, Ghetto House, Jersey Club?

It’s originally from Paris and even if we’ve never been a local record label (we played all over the world before being able to have opportunities in our own city), London is really amazing because everything seem possible. There are many clubs & radios that are very open minded and give you opportunities to build which is almost impossible in France unfortunately.

What’s your thoughts labels role in the music industry as more and more music is being streamed?

With the crazy amount of music being released everyday I feel like labels are more important than ever. A long time ago people were buying records based on the label who put it out as a quality warranty. We’ve been lucky enough to do this for a while now and have people who trust us and follow us releases after releases. I thought streaming was bad at first but in our case it didn’t really replace sales, it’s like an additional income. People who buy tracks are not the same audience of those who stream. If you really love a track or if you want to play it you will want to own the record but if you heard the song on the radio and just wanna add it to your playlist they will just look for you in Spotify.

How does these coming months look like for Moveltraxx?

We are recently released the 5th volume of our “Street Bangers Factory” series and we have several vinyl/digital releases coming before the end of the year including EPs from Dudley Slang, Big Dope P & DJ Nasty aka Detroit’s Filthiest + another “Street Bangers Factory” volume before Xmas. A few tour dates with Big Dope P, Feadz & Dudley Slang and a lot of surprises. We also adding the last touches to a big project for our label’s anniversary early 2017, stay tuned 🙂
