Label Focus: Local Talk Records
This Friday we feature the Stockholm based label Local Talk Records founded by the DJ’s Mad Mats and Tooli. Home of artists like Kyodai, HNNY, Luke Solomon, Turbojazz among others.
How would you explain the local house scene comparing to other cities?
I’m not sure we have a house “scene” in Stockholm? There was some kind of house scene in the late 90s and mid 2000s but then it all went all Berlin techno. House (and with that I don’t mean tech house) is something you don’t really hear in clubs any longer except with a few exceptions. It’s something you hear in bars by local bar DJs. Hopefully when the club kids matures I hope they will discover the beauty of house music and all the dancing that comes with it. But it will take time until we are where Paris or Amsterdam are at the moment.
What’s your thoughts labels role in the music industry as more and more music is being streamed?
Well, I actually think we’re going in two directions. The streams will nurture the wide majority and those that enjoy underground club music but on a slightly commercial level. But there has also been a big development to actually buy real products. Look at sites like Bandcamp which is a perfect place to discover and dig for independent music and where you can buy both vinyl, CDs, merch as well as digital songs in various formats. I think the actual interest for artists and labels are increasing among the youth.
How does these coming months look like for Local Talk Records?
We’ve been working hard to sign new music and artists that we can work with of longer period of time. We will release several albums and not just one off singles. We will also start working more in depth with our visual message and release full designed releases. Something that will not only sound great but also look amazing.
